Imitation

Ephesians 5:1 says, “Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children.” I believe that a natural response to loving God is imitation. I remember seeing a picture that my mom took when I was about three, wearing my dad’s big shoes with a tie wrapped around my neck hanging down to the floor. I looked so happy. Why did I do that? Because I loved my dad. I loved him so much that I wanted to be like him. I even wanted to wear his big shoes and his tie. I felt so loved by my dad (and I still do).

God wants us to know that we are his children and we are “dearly loved.” When we recognize how loved we are by God we won’t be able to help wanting to be like him. Let us all recognize how much God loves us and in response to that love be “imitators” of his holy and loving character.
